Friends of Carter Barron Foundation of the Performing Arts
The Friends of Carter Barron youth visited the John A. Wilson building. There they prepared to portray concerned citizens giving testimony on various issues to elected Council members of the District of Columbia City Council. While there, they discussed issues related to education [classroom size, building safety, food service and up-to-date books] gang violence in their communities, sexuality [bi-sexual / homosexual vs. heterosexual] and the preservation of the performing & technical arts programs in the District of Columbia School System. The youth have selected either the performing or technical arts as their career choice or current professional interest. The Friends of Carter Barron Foundation provides an opportunity for youth to pursue their career goals, and acquire critical thinking & input analysis skills. In addition, the experience establishes their acceptance of constructive criticism from their fellow peers and adults, all purposed to incorporate for them effective resolution strategies instead of immediate anger management outcomes that continue to plague communities throughout the world. |
